2025 A New Year
A New Year for George County ARES
A new year has arrived, and 2025 looks to be an exciting year for amateur radio here in George County.
The year certainly started with a bang thanks to the Big Freeze and Snow of 2025. Parts of South Mississippi received remarkable snowfall totals, while here at the Dailey Compound we accumulated more than four inches and saw temperatures around 10 degrees.
I haven’t seen snow fall like that since I was a teenager living in Wyoming.
With bridges, highways, streets, towns, and cities grinding to a halt and workplaces closing for days, January 2025 will certainly be one to remember.
Looking Ahead to 2025
At our January GC ARES monthly meeting, we planned our activities for the coming year. We have a full schedule ahead of us with opportunities to learn, participate, and enjoy amateur radio throughout 2025.
Our regular activities include:
- Weekly radio net: Wednesday evenings beginning at 7:37 PM
- Monthly GC ARES meeting: Second Saturday of each month
- Special events and activities throughout the year
- Additional Zoom meetings and presentations covering various aspects of amateur radio and related programs
Not every suggested presentation could fit into our regular monthly meeting schedule. Some topics may instead be covered during special Zoom sessions, providing additional opportunities to learn, participate, and ask questions.
Get Involved
We have an entire year ahead of us, and I hope everyone will consider spending some of that time with George County ARES.
There are plenty of ways to participate and plenty of opportunities where help is needed. You do not have to know everything or be an experienced emergency communicator. Ask where you can help, be willing to learn, and make yourself available when you can.
Let’s make 2025 a great year for George County ARES, our community, and the rewarding hobby we call amateur radio.
